GeoHazard Mitigation Course in Vancouver

GeoHazard Mitigation Course in Vancouver

April 30, 2018 British Columbia Institute of Technology – The Conference Room (Rm 280) at the Downtown Campus, 555 Seymour Street, Vancouver, BC. V6B 3H6

Join Ajay Sharma, the GeoStabilization Team, and guest speaker Sergei Terzaghi as they discuss various geohazard mitigation tools and case studies to address your geotechnical applications. This one-day workshop will present an advanced overview of landslide identification, mitigation, and soil slope stabilization, and rockfall. Particular attention will be paid to geohazard events affecting critical assets (highways and transportation corridors, mines, and other important infrastructure). Participants will learn design methodologies for a variety of innovative mitigation techniques, proper construction for various solutions, and will be guided through several case studies showing the application of various solutions with actual design examples. PDH certificates will be offered for this event if requested.

Sergei Terzaghi

Sergei Terzaghi has over 30 years of experience encompassing the full breadth of geotechnical engineering largely in the Pacific Basin. As part of that experience, Sergei has spent a lot of time remediating slopes of all descriptions using a range of techniques. To determine the most cost-effective approach, he has had to go to first principles on many slopes and build the understanding of the failure mechanisms, largely because the conventional theories ascribed to the failure often did not explain what was going on and lead to uneconomical solutions.

Many of the solutions were in a time and cost constrained environment working in a design build or similar environment, yet requiring a sufficiently robust design and documentation.
